Commuter Bus Service in Luzerne County

Hazleton Public Transit (HPT), a service of the City of Hazleton's Department of Public Services, operates nine routes in the City of Hazleton and surrounding townships and boroughs Monday through Friday, with limited service on Saturdays and Sundays. The Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) serves the city of Wilkes-Barre and surrounding areas Monday through Saturday. It operates 16 routes throughout the county. Most routes connect at Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.

Inter-City & Interstate Bus Service

Martz Trailways provides direct service from Public Square in Wilkes-Barre (and several other locations in the county) to King of Prussia, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and New York City. Susquehanna Trailways provides service via Berwick and Hazleton to Philadelphia and New York City. Greyhound provides service from several points in the county to most points in the continental United States.

Options for Every Need

Luzerne County has a variety of different taxicab and limousine services available for both residents and visitors. If you are looking for a way to just get across town or a ride home from the airport after a vacation or even a long distance trip shopping in New York City, there's an option for you. Limousines are the perfect luxury ride when on the way to a wedding, a school dance or even up to a concert at the Wachovia Arena. Most taxicab services offer shuttles to and from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport or just to locations around town.

Both Uber and Lyft are available in the County. No matter where you are in Luzerne County, reasonably priced rides, whether just the basics or arriving in high style, are easy to find.

AMTRAK

AMTRAK does not currently provide service in Northeastern Pennsylvania, although a major initiative is underway to bring high speed rail service to Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.

Freight Rail Service

Norfolk Southern and the Canadian Pacific provide service for many of the county's major manufacturing and distributing companies. The Reading and Northern provides several communities in the county with feeder service to larger carriers, as does the railroad operated by the Luzerne County Rail Authority.
