Attending a Custody or Adoption Hearing

Be aware of the date, time and location of your hearing. Family Court hearings occur in the Bernard C. Brominski Building and the Luzerne County Courthouse throughout the day. Have your Scheduling Order and accompanying paperwork with you at all times.

  • Please dress appropriately for court.
  • If you are representing yourself, bring all documents and factual information that may be required to adequately present your case. If you are the Petitioner in the matter being addressed, be aware that you may be asked to provide proof of service to all parties.
  • Do not bring children to custody or termination hearings unless you are instructed to do so by the Court. Children should be brought to an adoption hearing.
  • Photography and any audio or visual recording is strictly prohibited unless approved by the presiding Judge. Unauthorized photography and/or recording may result in legal action.
  • Be prepared to spend an extended amount of time at the courthouse. The amount of time allotted for hearings can only be estimated and, therefore, can lead to significant delays in the daily schedule.
  • Free parking for the Brominski Building and the Courthouse is available in the parkade adjacent to the Brominski Buiding. The structure is accessible from Water Street.
