The Luzerne County Specialty Court was implemented in 2010 in order to link mentally ill offenders with long-term community-based treatment as an alternative to incarceration.
The Luzerne County Treatment Court program, sometimes called Drug Court, is a program designed to give those defendants dependent upon, or addicted to, controlled substances an opportunity to break the cycle of criminal activity that results from their dependence/addiction and become productive members of our community.
Through their combat experience, many veterans come home with issues such as PTSD or a traumatic brain injury. By diverting our veterans to this judicially supervised treatment program, we are able to provide them with the tools, education and resources needed to get them on the right track and help them remain arrest free.
Youth Aid Panels are an opportunity for community members to reestablish their role in the lives of their youth, as well as those in their community who have been victimized. They participate in a problem-solving process and offer a plan to address the juvenile’s wrongdoing.
