Victim / Witness Services

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Victim / Witness Division of the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office is to reduce the trauma of crime by assisting crime victims, witnesses and others to reconstruct and restore their lives through advocacy, support, information and referrals. We strive to prevent further victimization by intervening on behalf of our clients to address problems that are caused by their involuntary involvement in the justice system. All victims/witnesses will be treated with dignity and respect.

Victim Services

The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting victims and their rights. The Victim / Witness Division of our Office is trained to provide essential services to crime victims and witnesses of Luzerne County.

The Victim / Witness Coordinators work in the Luzerne County Courthouse to assist prosecutors with crime victim and witness relations. They lend critical support to victims and witnesses who must testify or otherwise appear in court proceedings on behalf of the Commonwealth. They also provide victims guidance through the criminal justice system, help with the collection of restitution and its supporting documentation, assist signing up victims who are eligible for SAVIN (please see Pennsylvania SAVIN for more information) and VCAP (Victim Compensation Assistance Program), and provide important information about victims’ rights.
