Important Candidate Information

Municipalities and school districts have a statutory obligation to inform the Bureau of Elections of which races are to appear on the ballot before a municipal primary (25 P.S. 2864). The deadline to complete this is February 14, 2023. If you have not received a letter to your municipality or district, please email elections@luzernecounty.org

For 2023, the Luzerne County Bureau of Registration and Elections will be accepting nomination petitions from candidates for the Luzerne County Democratic and Republican nominations for county, Magisterial District Judge, city, borough, township and school district offices. Those seeking nomination for minor political parties or minor political bodies should contact the Bureau of Registration and Elections.

The FIRST DAY for candidates to circulate and file petitions is February 14, 2023.
The LAST DAY for candidates to circulate and file petitions is 
March 7,2023.

The 2023 nomination petition packets will be available on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 for pickup at the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections. The packets include multiple documents for use by individuals who wish to run for office in Luzerne County. In the meantime, candidates are encouraged to read the following information to prepare for their candidacy:
