"The District Attorney’s Office will fight on two fronts; criminal prosecution and crime prevention.
Tough prosecution is the hallmark of the District Attorney’s Office as is the belief that crime
can be reduced and our county made safer with a plan to prevent crime."

The goals of the District Attorney’s Office are to provide fair, effective and expeditious
investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses within Luzerne County, and
implement crime prevention programs in cooperation with federal, state and local
law enforcement, human service agencies, and citizens to ensure our community is safe. 


Objectives


The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer of the County, and under the constitution and laws of the State, is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all crimes and offenses committed in the County. The District Attorney is an elected official, accountable to the Governor for the performance of his or her prosecutorial duties.

The District Attorney’s Office is comprised of the District Attorney, First Assistant District Attorney, and 25 Assistant District Attorneys. Additionally, there are 10 county detectives and 17 members of the support staff, 4 trial assistants, 9 victim/witness unit staffmembers, and 1 community service official.

The goal of the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office is to provide fair, effective and expeditious investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses within the County.

  • Collaborate with other law and justice agencies to deter crime with a special emphasis on the prevention of serious and violent crimes.
  • Safeguard the public safety while strictly complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Encourage performance that exceeds state and federal time and case processing standards.
  • Cooperate with the courts, law enforcement, defense attorneys, corrections, and health and human services agencies to make legally appropriate and cost-effective use of alternative punishment and rehabilitation options.
  • Promote fiscal responsibility and administrative efficiency in all District Attorney operations.
  • To reach out to the communities of Luzerne County for input, recommendations and concerns and to educate citizens on the workings of the Criminal Justice System at large and the District Attorney’s Office in particular.
