The District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to providing fair, effective and expeditious investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses perpetrated within Luzerne County.  It is the goal of our Office to keep our communities safe and secure by working with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to implement community-based crime prevention programs to ensure our neighborhoods are a great place to live and raise a family.

 

A District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer for the county in which he/she is elected.  As such, the District Attorney is charged with conducting criminal prosecutions in the name of the Commonwealth but may do so only in the county in which he/she is elected.  The District Attorney is an elected official, accountable to the Governor for the performance of his or her prosecutorial duties.

 

The District Attorney’s Office is comprised of the District Attorney, First Assistant District Attorney, Deputy District Attorney and 23 Assistant District Attorneys. Additionally, there are 10 County Detectives, 13 Support Staff, 7 Trial Assistants, 7 Victims/Witness Coordinators and 1 Community Service Coordinator.
