Luzerne County Commissioners designate days to support the fight against Heart Disease in Women, as well as Congenital Heart Defects

(Wilkes-Barre) - At its meeting on January 31, 2007, the Luzerne County Board of Commissioners issued resolutions declaring February 2007 as "Heart Month", and February 2nd 2007 as "Go Red for Women Day in Luzerne County", supporting the national campaign which promotes healthy heart awareness for women.  Receiving the resolution were Kathleen Bird, Senior Director of the American Heart Association, along with association members Ann Marie Arnone and Judy Shaver.

Also attending were Ann Lengel of Edwardsville with her 2-year old grandson, Zachary, and his parents. Zachary was born with congenital heart disease, and the family had requested that the Luzerne County Commissioners help them promote congenital heart defects awareness, and thank the dedicated healthcare professionals who help children with heart defects.  The Luzerne County Commissioners declared February 14th, 2007 as "Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day in Luzerne County."  As you can see, little Zachary, who is doing fine after several surgeries, had no problem stealing the hearts of all in attendance!
