Commissioners Also Wish Hazleton Area Public Library a "Happy 100th Birthday" and Provide Funding for the Luzerne County Library System as well as the Athena Project

(Wilkes-Barre) - The Luzerne County Commissioners presented resolutions as well as financial support to a number of Luzerne County agencies and organizations at their meeting on October 17th, 2007.  Representatives of the Family Services Association of Wyoming Valley, Catholic Social Services and Jewish Family Services joined the Commissioners as they designated "National Family Week" in Luzerne County.  Employees of the Luzerne County Children and Youth Agency were on hand as the Commissioners proclaimed November 2007 as "Adoption Awareness Month", in hopes that families in Luzerne County would help provide loving homes for children who desperately need them.  The Commissioners also saluted high school students Rosemary Beseda, Nicole Harvey, and Lissette Cantoran, who were winners of this year's "Health Careers Essay Contest", soponsored by the Luzerne/Schuylkill Counties Workforce Development Board.  The Commissioners also presented Director James Reinmiller of the Hazleton Area Public Library with a resolution in celebration of the library's 100th Anniversary.  The Commissioners also presented a check to members of the Luzerne County Library System with part of its annual grant, which helps to support libraries throughout the county.  The Commissioners also presented a check for $10,000 to the "Athena Project", which provides special events for high school-aged girls in Luzerne County which are aimed a building self-esteem.
