Commissioners Underscore Importance of the Community Development Block Grant Program; Highlight Improvements Made with its Support

(Wilkes-Barre) - Luzerne County Commission Chairman Gregory A. Skrepenak, Commissioner Steven A. Urban, Community Development Director Andy Reilly, and Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom Leighton held a news conference on April 9th, 2007, to outline the strides made all across Luzerne County with the help of federal Community Development Block Grant Funding, and the importance of having the program continue and be expanded.  The news conference was held at the RC Theatres/Northampton and Main Complex in downtown Wilkes-Barre, which was developed with over $2 million dollars in Community Development funding channeled through Luzerne County. Since the program was initiated in 1975, hundreds of projects throughout Luzerne County were brought to fruition with the help of more than $400 million dollars in Community Development Block Grants. Commissioners Skrepenak and Urban also presented OCD Director Andy Reilly with a resolution proclaiming April 8th through April 14th, 2007 as "Community Development Week in Luzerne County."
