Commissioners Join with Legislators, City Officials and First Responders for Ceremony at Luzerne County Community College

(Nanticoke) - Luzerne County Commissioners Gregory A. Skrepenak, Todd A. Vonderheid and Stephen A. Urban joined hundreds of regional residents, First Responders, Elected Officials, and the faculty, staff, administration and trustees of Luzerne County Community College to break ground for Phase One construction of the college's Public Safety Training Institute on March 30th, 2007 at its campus in Nanticoke.  Commissioner Skrepenak, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the college, opened the program with remarks about the cutting-edge facility.  "The LCCC Public Safety Training Institute will be a beacon promoting safer communities all across Northeastern Pennsylvania," said Commissioner Skrepenak.  "It will feature a comprehensive center which will train firefighters, law enforcement, security personnel, emergency management responders, medical personnel and all public safety personnel."  He continued, "I'd like to thank the college officials, the members of the Institute Planning Task Force, members of area law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical responders who took time, brought their expertise to the table, and crafted a plan for an institute which will make life safer for nearly one million people who live in our ten county area."  Phase One of the project, which received major funding from the Luzerne County Commissioners, will include site preparations and construction of a classroom building and emergency response training tower.  Phase Two will feature construction of a number of specialized training facilities and features.
