County Commissioners Maryanne Petrilla, Gregory Skrepenak and Stephen Urban recently helped promote AFSCME's Union for Soldiers program.


The Luzerne County Commissioners and other administrators recently teamed with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) to promote the "Union for Soldiers" project, which provides donated items for county employees serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The program, which runs through June 27, is seeking donations of the following items: Gatorade, beef jeerky, large baby wipes, trail mix, chapstick lip balm, sun block, foot powder, bug spray, hand sanitizer, tissue packs, rolaids/tums/ Pepto-Bismol (tablet forms only), Q-tips, liquid soap, Pringles, blister pads, blister medication, socks, tea, hard candy, Crystal Light, zip-lock freezer bags, eye drops, homemade backed goods (must be in sealed bags), current local newspapers, coffee, coffee filters, creamers, canned goods - fruit/tuna/ravioli/pudding.
