Luzerne County Commissioners Celebrate “Hispanic Heritage Day.”

(Wilkes-Barre) - The Luzerne County Board of Commissioners celebrated the first-ever Hispanic Heritage Day in Luzerne County on October 12th, 2006. Latin American nations celebrate October 12th, the official Columbus Day as “El Dia de la Raza.” More than 250 LuzerneCounty residents attended the evening event, which featured displays of history, art and culture from 9 Central and South American countries, and traditional foods from those nations. The celebration program featured the Pledge of Allegiance led by children from the Wilkes-BarreCatholicYouthCenter day care program, remarks from Alma Arias-McGarry and Amilcar Arroyo, as well as traditional Mexican dances performed by local children.
