Commissioners Declare May as "Arthritis Awareness Month", "Barrier Awareness Month",  "Protect Children from Tobacco Smoke Pollution Month", and Recognize Music Students on their Performances at Carnegie Hall

(Plymouth Borough) - A the "Commissioners in the Community" regular meeting held in Plymouth Borough on May 21st, 2007, the Luzerne County Commissioners designated May 2007 as a month to bring awareness to a number of issues important to the community.  The Commissioners presented resolutions on "Arthritis Awareness Month" to Northeast PA Arthritis Unit Community Development Director Greg Shahum and Board of Directors Vice-Chair Irene Carey; "Barrier Awareness Month", highlighting physical barriers in every day life to those with physical challenges to Denise Corcoran, Executive Director of the Anthracite Center for Independent Living; and " Protect Children from Tobacco Smoke Pollution Month" to representatives of  Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services.

Also at the session, the Commissioners congratulated young musicians from all across Luzerne County who recently had the honor of performing at New York City's world-famous Carnegie Hall.  Their recitals were coordinated by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association. Students honored were: Gregory John Grabiec, Jessica Twardowski, James Chropowicki, R.J. Sperazza, Robert Coslett, Olivia Richards, Mallory Kusakavitch, Alyssa Golden, Joanne Monflietta, Nichole Slavoski, Jared Gollhardt, Brian Halchak, Demetra Szatkowski, Rychelle Rogers, Melissa Reichard, Megan O’Connell, Megan Dillon, Ariana Notartomaso, Grace Schaub, Tyler Mariano, Bronwen Stec, Katie Laputka, Michael Stec, Alexander Chacinski, and Jamie Fan.
