Commissioners present checks to three community organizations; make 2007 Capital Grants announcements.
(Wilkes-Barre) - At their meeting on December 21st, 2006, the Luzerne County Commissioners presented checks and financial pledges for funding to three community organizations. Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania received a ceremonial check for $100,000. for it's Enterprise Village Business Center, a facility which will train future entrepreneurs and business leaders. The Commissioners also presented a check for $5,000. to the United Way of the Wyoming Valley, as well as it's quartely allocation to the Luzerne County Library Systerm.
The Commissioners also approved their allocations for community projects which will be funded through Capital Grants in 2007. Recipients included West Hazleton Little League, the Osterhout Free Library, Back Mountain Youth Football and Cheerleading, Back Mountain Recreation, Inc., Franklin Township, The Lands at Hillside Farms in care of the Luzerne County Historical Society, Dallas Borough/Back Mountain Arts Association, The F.M. Kirby Center, the City of Wilkes-Barre Housing Initiative, Duryea Borough, Wright Township, Borough of Plymouth/Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority, CitiVest and King's College North Main Street Project, the Wilkes-Barre Intermodal Project and the Luzerne County SPCA.
