Luzerne County Commissioner Celebrates "Slovak Independence Day."

(Wilkes-Barre) - The Luzerne County Board of Comissioners hosted Slovak Independence on Friday September 15, 2006 in the Courthouse rotunda. A crowd of about 30 Slovak Americans gathered to celebrate the ceremony which was chaired by Deputy City Controller Laura Brace.

In addition to the singing of the Slovakian anthem with Accordionist Andrew Chuba, Commissioner Gregory Skrepenak presented a resolution to Magdalen I. Iskra, president of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.
The keynote speaker was Robert Zavada and Therese R. Chupka offered the benediction.

After the ceremony, followed by Slovak treats, including pirohi were served.
