The Luzerne County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that a new agreement has been reached for the placement of juveniles at the PA Child Care-owned Pittston Township detention center. Under the new agreement, Luzerne County has the right to utilize up to 12 detention beds on an as-needed basis for a rate of $285.00 per day, per bed. The new agreement will continue on a month-to-month basis.

“Right now, the Commissioners agree that this is the best option for ensuring the welfare of young detainees without adding additional cost and travel-associated risks to the juveniles or county correctional personnel,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Maryanne Petrilla.

The Board of Commissioners will continue to explore options for a long-term juvenile detention solution, including the potential for refurbishing the previous County-run detention center or the construction of a new facility.
