Luzerne County Commissioners Announce Call for 2006 Capital Projects Funding Proposals

(Wilkes-Barre) – Luzerne County Commissioners Gregory A. Skrepenak, Todd A. Vonderheid, and Stephen A. Urban invite representatives of municipalities and public and private development organizations to submit applications for capital grant funding by September 15th, 2006. Applications must be submitted by that date to allow Luzerne County to create a consolidated strategy for obtaining state and federal funding for clearly defined projects within the County.

Application materials will be available on the Luzerne County Website at www.luzernecounty.org. Additional information can be obtained from Luzerne County Grant Specialist Michele Sparich at msparich@luzernecounty.org, or by calling (570) 830-5112.

Members of each local development group are asked to propose one single capital construction project which should be "ready to go" in the immediate future, with priorities given to projects which either create substantial new permanent jobs, rejuvenate older communities/urban areas, significantly increase tourism, increase home ownership or rental opportunities, enhance recreation or heritage resources, or enhance the cultural or arts segments of the county.

Following the application deadline, groups will be asked to make brief presentations about their projects at a meeting that will be coordinated by the Luzerne County Office of Community Development.
