The Luzerne County Municipal Cooperation Commission was created by the Luzerne County Commissioners in an attempt to facilitate multiple municipalities working together and achieve cost savings, improved services and better efficiencies. The Commission is headed by State Representative John Yudichak, and comprised of elected officials and private citizens from communities from all parts of Luzerne County. Administrative support is provided by the Pennsylvania Economy League
The Municipal Cooperation Commission continues to work with municipal officials at the county and the county’s municipalities to assist local officials with shared services, particularly in the areas of public safety, land use, development and planning, and cooperative provision of health care. The commissioners have sent a letter to each municipality in the county alerting local officials to the Municipal Cooperation Commission, and encouraging these officials to use the staff and resources of the Municipal Cooperation Commission to help these municipalities pursue cooperative activities.
